District 322-D

Our district, as it stands today, came into existence following bifurcation of district 322-B in 1979-80. Earlier district was very large in area and the development of Lionism in such a big area was at a very slow pace. Administration became a chronic problem, which necessitated a thinking towards bifurcation. In the words of our first District Governor , Lion J.N. Bawri. Therefore after due consideration, we separated ourselves with a new district 322-D”. Even the new district 322-D included certain areas of West Bengal, which were later reverted to district 322-B and with the new district 322-C comprising mostly of the State of Orissa from district 322-B. The larger district then was under Lion R. N. Lakhotia and the new district 322-D came under the leadership of Lion J.N. Bawri . Our district started with 46 clubs and with a total membership of 2206 members.

District 322-D was once again divided in 2000-01 and the areas comprising of Sikkim, revenue district of Malda, West Dinajpur, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling and Coochbehar and Country of Bhutan were separated as district 322-F and the rest of the areas of seven states remained in district 322-D.

LIONS CLUBS ETHICS

TO SHOW my faith in the worthiness of my vocation by industrious application to the end that I may merit a reputation for quality of service.
TO SEEK success and to demand all fair remuneration or profit as my just due, but to accept no profit or success at the price of own self-respect, lost because of unfair advantage taken or because of questionable acts on my part.
TO REMEMBER that in building up my business it is not necessary to tear down another's.
To be Loyal to my clients or customers and true to myself.
WHENEVER a doubt arises as to the right or ethics of my position or action towards others, to resolve such doubt against myself.
TO HOLD friendship as an end and not as means.
TO HOLD that true friendship exists not on account of the service performed by one to another, but that true friendship demands nothing but accepts service in the spirit in which it is given.
ALWAYS to bear in mind my obligations as a citizen to my nation, my community, and to give then unswerving loyalty in word, act and deed. TO GIVE them freely of my time, labour and means.
TO AID others by giving my sympathy to those in distress, my aid to the weak, any my substance to the needy.
TO BE careful with my criticism and liberal with my praise; to build up and not destroy.

Lions Motto : We Serve

The International Board approved and the delegates at the 37th Convention at New York City, July 7-10-1954, adopted ‘We Serve’ as the official motto of the Association. The phrase sent in by a Lion from Canada was chosen from amongst more than 60,000 enteries received from all over the world in response to a call to suggest a motto for the organisation.
